Tissot’s Persistent Quest for Precision and Resistance
Since its foundation in 1853, Tissot has been on a constant quest for precision and resistance. In the 1930s and after many years of experimentation, the brand produces a large choice of water-resistant watches. These models benefitted from important technological innovations such as a patented stainless steel case protecting against dust, shock and humidity, topped with an unbreakable glass, while also being antimagnetic!

A New Seastar is Born
In 1952, the name “Seastar” was officially registered by Tissot in Switzerland to designate a new generation of waterproof timekeepers. This series included a range of elegant, hermetically sealed watches primarily made for outdoor use. These models were immediately met with success and were produced for the next decades. In 1965, new designs led to the creation of a “Seastar special – PR 516” – associating the name Seastar to the PR terminology for the first time – like a legacy…
The Rise of the PRX
At Tissot, the PR name stands for “Particularly Robust” or “Precision and Resistance”. According to the advertisements of that time, this model was meant to be used: “On the track, in the air, in the water – everywhere!” The robustness is guaranteed by a new ‘floating’ movement and flexible joints of synthetic materials acting as shock absorbers. Moreover, the PRX is a model series that is waterproof up to 10 bars (X), due to an armoured glass recessed to a thick case. Associated to a bold design, the PR series had all the qualities to become a watch for all. Since then on, the Tissot PRX continues to prove that there is no success, no progress without commitment.
