The sixth edition of North East India Fashion Week – The Artisans Movement unfolded at the Koro Happa River Island in Jollang, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, commencing on November 18. A mesmerizing array of designs captivated a sizable audience during the inaugural ceremony.
Distinguished guests, including Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, State MLA and Chief Patron Techi Kaso, and Tripura Minister Bikash Debbarma, graced the event as chief guests and honored guests.
Yana Ngoba Chakpu, Designer and CEO, shared insights into the three-day festival, where more than 30 designers and artisans showcased their creations on the center stage.
The spectacular fashion extravaganza was meticulously organized by One Arunachal, a registered NGO dedicated to fostering awareness and preserving the traditional and cultural unity of Arunachal Pradesh.
On November 20, the fashion sequences commenced with a special showcase of designs from Arunachal Pradesh by Gleam Dive, followed by designs by Dimasa weaver Ritu Daulagaphu from Assam.
Subsequent showcases included designer Metam Veo's presentation, followed by a captivating performance by folk musician Warklung Phu Ningding from Karbi Anglong in Assam. An inspiring sequence by Sawabalambi, featuring specially-abled artisans and weavers, added a unique touch to the event.
The fashion journey continued with sequences by Neeta Sidisow and a compelling performance by Apatani folk singer Tapi Uka. Designer Hibu Ollo Budhi's creations took the spotlight during Tapi Uka's performance.
The talented designer-duo Nang Watika Mantaw and Nang Wenika Namchoom showcased Khamti weaves, followed by designer Leeza Bagra's presentation. Arunachal Idol-fame singer Markio Tanaldo's thrilling performance added to the vibrant atmosphere.
The grand finale featured designer Rupa Rebe, with Rubaru Mr India and Mr Arunachal 2023 gracing the ramp as showstoppers.
Yana Ngoba's flagship event, North East India Fashion Week – The Artisans Movement, serves as a platform for conducting pilot studies aimed at enhancing the inclusion, empowerment, and quality of life of artisans and weavers in northeast India.
While the event has concluded, its impact resonates as a commemoration of the movement and a celebration of the talents of artisans from northeast India. With the participation of more than 30 designers and weavers, the three-day fashion extravaganza showcased the rich diversity and creativity of the region.
Reflecting on the success of the sixth edition, Chairman of One Arunachal, Joram Tat, expressed, “Through North East India Fashion Week - The Artisans Movement, we strive to identify artisan role models, boost self-esteem within the artisan community, advocate for their skills, and offer a platform to showcase their unique talents. With the valuable support of our NGO, we are committed to training and promoting the weavers and designers from the region through ongoing skill development and capacity building. This endeavor aims to enhance employability, secure better livelihoods, dignify labor, and establish a brand presence with global market connections.”
