Reliance Industries is reportedly engaged in preliminary discussions to introduce Irish fast-fashion retailer Primark into the Indian market.
Established in 1969 and headquartered in Dublin, Primark boasts a presence of over 400 stores spanning the UK, Europe, and the US. The brand, renowned for its cost-effective apparel and footwear offerings, has long expressed interest in entering the Indian market.
Should negotiations prove fruitful, Primark is anticipated to make its foray into India through either a joint venture or licensing arrangement, as indicated by BNN Breaking. This strategic move would afford the brand direct access to the burgeoning Indian consumer base, capitalizing on Reliance’s extensive retail network and operational efficiencies.
According to sources cited by The Economic Times, the majority of Primark stores are slated to be situated on high streets, aligning with the brand’s characteristic big-box format.
Reliance presently stands as one of India’s prominent retailers, boasting a diverse portfolio of international brand affiliations. A prospective collaboration with Primark would bolster Reliance's competitive stance against key rivals such as Tata’s Zudio, Landmark Group’s Max, and Shoppers Stop’s InTune.
