Renowned artist Sarika Bajaj's latest exhibition offers a captivating journey into the depths of environmental consciousness, serving as both a requiem for our fractured world and a poetic ode to a more holistic response to the looming threat of climate change.
The exhibition, aptly titled "The Passage," presents a nuanced collection of sensorial and tactile multi-media artworks, each intricately crafted to provoke thought and evoke emotion. At the heart of Bajaj's transformative experience lies the human body, depicted as a portal to understanding primordial truths—a bridge between past and future, this world and the multiverse.
Central to Bajaj's artistic narrative is the symbolism of bird feathers, meticulously woven into sculptures, tapestries, and even wearable garments. In a haunting yet mesmerizing performance captured in archival pigment prints, Bajaj adorns herself in a handmade body garment crafted from discarded bird feather quills, symbolizing the interconnectedness between humanity and the natural world.
Through her work, Bajaj draws attention to pressing ecological issues, highlighting the threat to avian life and the urgent need for action against climate change. Each piece serves as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our planet for future generations.
Photographed by Kalpit Gaonkar, the exhibition transcends traditional artistic boundaries, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a realm where art and environmental activism converge seamlessly. In Bajaj's ethereal performance, she embodies an otherworldly presence—a part Shaman, part emissary between worlds—urging us to confront the realities of our time and embrace a more sustainable future.
