The closing show of India Couture Week (ICW) 2024 was a grand tribute to India's rich textile heritage and artisanal craftsmanship. Actors Rashmika Mandanna and Vicky Kaushal dazzled as showstoppers, dressed in elegant shades of white with gold embellishments, for the Falguni & Shane Peacock show.
The event celebrated Indian craftsmanship with models walking the runway to a medley of Indian songs, including A.R. Rahman’s iconic ‘Ye Jo Des Hai Tera’.
Marking their 20-year anniversary, the designer duo Falguni & Shane Peacock concluded FDCI's Hyundai ICW 2024 in association with Reliance Brands by unveiling their latest collection, 'Rang Mahal,' alongside a showcase of jewellery from Tanishq. The 'Rang Mahal' collection was presented in collaboration with Swadesh, a brand dedicated to preserving India’s textile heritage and craftsmanship.
This unique collaboration brought forth a capsule collection featuring sarees that highlight textile-led crafts like Kanjivaram silks, known for their luxurious texture and intricate motifs, woven with real gold and silver zari threads. The collection also includes the FSP monogram woven into saree and dupatta borders, Banarasi brocade lehengas, and Chikankari, all seamlessly blended with Falguni Shane Peacock’s signature style. Notably, this marks the first time the designers have incorporated Indian weaves and textiles, honoring indigenous weavers.
“Rang Mahal is more than just a collection; it is a homage to the artisans, the storytellers, and the custodians of our cultural legacy. Our collaboration with Swadesh brings forth the finest handwoven textiles, celebrating India's rich artisanal heritage. As each model graces the runway, they carry with them the spirit of India's past and the promise of its future, wrapped in the splendor of our cultural history, preserved and celebrated through fashion,” said Falguni Shane Peacock.
The haute couture collection by FSP draws inspiration from the regal and ethereal elements of India’s royal heritage. 'Rang Mahal,' or "Palace of Colours," is inspired by fifty iconic aspects of India's history, including grand palaces, lavish lifestyles, and exquisite craftsmanship. Luxurious silks, rich velvets, and intricate embroideries evoke the grandeur of royal courts. Each piece is a tribute to the timeless elegance and sophistication of India's royal legacy, crafted by master artisans who carry forward the traditions of their ancestors.
This collection celebrates the diverse and vivid hues that define Indian culture and tradition, drawing inspiration from majestic symbols such as resplendent parrots and peacocks, serene swans, powerful horses and elephants, magnificent tigers, mystical palaces, traditional diyas, the melodious sitar, the sacred banyan tree and peepal leaf, expressive mudras, fragrant roses, the spiritual conch, revered cows, intricate paisleys and Kashmiri thread work, the iconic Taj Mahal, and sparkling diamonds.
