The government is set to introduce the highly anticipated 'INDIAsize' initiative, aimed at creating standardized clothing sizes tailored specifically to Indian body types, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh announced on Thursday.
Currently, both international and domestic brands in India rely on sizing standards from the US and the UK, which often result in poor fit due to variations in body dimensions like height, weight, and specific measurements.
To address these issues, the Ministry of Textiles has approved the INDIAsize project to establish standard body sizes for the Indian apparel industry. Minister Singh also mentioned ongoing efforts to have the project inaugurated by the Prime Minister in the near future.
In a related development, India has launched VisioNxt, its first initiative combining Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Emotional Intelligence (EI) to provide fashion trend insights and forecasts. This platform is designed to analyze trends specific to different regions of India while reflecting the country's cultural and socio-economic diversity.
Minister Singh emphasized that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India now has its own fashion design forecasting system. This new platform aims to close a gap previously filled by American and European agencies by understanding the Indian mindset and aspirations, significantly reducing reliance on global forecasting platforms, while leveraging India's IT prowess.
