Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), will present the FDCI Showcase: The Denim Edit. Five celebrated designers— Ashish Soni, Sushant Abrol of Countrymade, Dhruv Kapoor, Kanika Goyal Label (KGL), and Himanshu Shani and Mia Morikawa of 11:11 celebrate the versatility of denim --- from luxury tailoring to streetwear, sustainability to gender-fluid designs. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 11, 2024, at The Grand, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.
“Denim has been a part of every wardrobe, age group and gender making it a staple for everyone, universally. What will be interesting to see is the interpretation and engaging rendition each of the five designers give this almost 150-year-old fabric. Carving new dimensions with unique expressions—hand painted, to sporty as well as tailored, this show celebrates its edgy makeover,” said Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI.
Ashish N Soni, known for his “less is more” philosophy, flawless cuts, and clean lines, says, “I am thrilled to be part of this multi-designer show, which celebrates the enduring trend of denim. FDCI has elevated this concept by creating a unique show that celebrates this trend, with contemporary designers pushing the boundaries”.
While Countrymade by Sushant Abrol, founded in 2019, and known for its nifty military detailing, says “ the collection titled Trail Dust is an expedition in every stitch, where denim becomes a canvas for life’s raw beauty—telling stories of resilience, adventure, and the indelible marks left on every journey,” said Sushant Abrol.
Dhruv Kapoor’s signature is custom-developed fabrics, as he celebrates an individualistic sense of style, this year he brings a Retro yet contemporary charm to his line. “Our capsule features iconic details, captivating designs, and refined colours through sophisticated treatments and unconventional pairings. It presents denim in diverse forms—giant and petite, distressed and hand-embroidered, painted, and raw,” said Dhruv Kapoor.
Kanika Goyal Label, KGL, a neo-luxury brand, founded in 2014, admits denim is a powerful symbol of rebellion, self-expression and she wholeheartedly embraces its transformative nature. Denim, for her, is more than just a fabric—it is a testament to individuality. “We are excited to reinterpret denim through bold tailoring, combining craftsmanship with the versatility and timeless appeal,” said Kanika Goyal.
Denim has always meant different things to wearers—some like it as a jacket, while others cannot do without favourite pair of denims, 11.11 a sustainable label known for its gender-neutral designs, by Mia Morikawa and Himanshu Shani, will be putting a spotlight on how we can wear “responsible denim”.
