The name Payal Pratap is a respected and popular one for women’s wear in India. A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology Delhi in 1994, Payal’s collection at every fashion week has been a hot seller, and had that timeless, glam appeal for her buyers.
Payal’s brand sensibilities have always revolved around rich culture and heritage and her craft-based clothes showcased a treasure trove of intricate thread embroidery, patchwork, prints, weaves and surface texturing.
Payal’s collection“Kiss from a Rose” at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI was a Spring/Summer 2025 look that was a journey back into nature, as well as Payal’s memories that flashed back to the happy and joyful things in her life. She was surrounded by flora and fauna in the past that came alive in her current ensembles. The burst of vivid colours was visible for the garments as they created a kaleidoscopic vision of pixelated and surreal beauty.
Fabrics that brought the floral collection to life took the form of handlooms, linen, cotton silk, duchess satin, denim and georgette. The colours matched the lovely foliage in Payal’s memory, as she zeroed in on deep hued anthuriums, bright melons and then moved to sunflower, bird of paradise and phlox. These were skilfully merged with ebony and ivory to complete the colour palette.
Embellishments have been Payal’s forté. Decorating the feminine looks were cross stitch embroidery with both machine and hand work. Pixelated floral imagery, appliqués and an abundance of graphic motifs added to the fresh appeal of the ensembles.
Keeping the comfort level as her prime focus, oversized pant suits, co-ord sets and wide leg pants were feminine pieces that reflected a sportswear construction and rib detailing. Androgynous cardigans and sports jackets gave an easy vibe to the collection, while frills, gathers, lingerie influences and lace brought a delicate appeal. The amalgamation of vintage skirts and retro dresses with twisted hems were eye-catching, while the concept of wildflowers splashed on denim brought the garden sanctuary inspiration to centre stage.
Pretty blouses were dappled with colourful blossoms, while comfort wear was in the forefront. The dramatic yokes over sheer, long-sleeved shirts teamed with skirts, the oversized jacket and trouser suits and the multi checked/striped co-ord sets created an interesting look. Abstract patchwork was an unconventional embellishment for a long-sleeved shirt, while a pretty dress sprinkled with clumps of blossoms brought a feminine appeal to the collection. There was a marked focus on nature, as Payal’s memory once again dived into the past and these ideas were added to her thoughts, while designing the clothes.
Payal’s collections have always been the complete look. Colourful handmade ballerinas were ideal for the feet, while the specially designed stone jewellery added a touch of glitter.
Braided hair decorated with ribbons were topped with bucket hats, while embroidered bags and vintage glasses added the final touch of fashion styling.
Payal’s collection“Kiss from a Rose” was designed for the confident woman who is unafraid to experiment with her sartorial choices. She will undoubtedly love Payal Pratap’s line that is aimed at the nature lover.
