In a groundbreaking step for the textile and fashion industries, the new World of Waste tool has been introduced as an open-source platform designed to aggregate and present vital data on global textile waste. Created with support from major industry players, this tool brings together comprehensive data from sorting centres worldwide, aiming to significantly increase transparency and recovery rates in textile waste management.
The World of Waste platform, a first-of-its-kind initiative, centralizes data from key organisations and partners, including Fashion for Good, Laudes Foundation, Global Fashion Agenda, Circle Economy, IDH, Accelerating Circularity, and Reverse Resources. It empowers stakeholders throughout the supply chain—recyclers, policymakers, and innovators—with detailed insights into waste composition, quantity, and location. This visibility is designed to help industry players make data-driven decisions that foster circularity, reduce textile waste, and unlock opportunities for innovation and systemic change.
The platform’s commitment to inclusivity is central to its mission; it is accessible to all, encouraging collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the industry. With this resource, the potential to repurpose and recycle textiles on a global scale becomes more feasible, positioning the industry closer to its sustainability goals.
