Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh visited Panipat, a prominent hub for textiles and handlooms, on Monday to engage with over 150 manufacturers and exporters. The meeting, organized by the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) in collaboration with the Panipat Exporters Association, focused on addressing industry challenges and exploring strategies for innovation and export growth.
During his interaction, the Minister emphasized the need for innovation in product development, suggesting unique blends such as jute with bamboo and recycled cotton with synthetic fibres for carpets and floor coverings. He urged manufacturers to adopt green energy solutions to meet 100% of their energy needs, aligning with global sustainability goals.
Giriraj Singh also visited major factories in Panipat, including Mahajan Overseas, Excellent Fabtex, and Shree Jee International, to understand their operations firsthand. He stressed the importance of collaboration with Kolkata’s jute industry to incorporate jute as a key raw material in Panipat’s textile products.
Recognizing Panipat’s designation as a Town of Export Excellence, the Minister highlighted the region's remarkable Rs 12,000 crore annual export turnover, with its products being exported to markets in the USA, Europe, Japan, and Australia. The textile industry in Panipat not only serves as a vital contributor to India’s export economy but also employs nearly 8–10 lakh workers, underscoring its socio-economic significance.
Outlining the government’s ambitious vision, Giriraj Singh shared the goal of achieving a $350 billion textile market, with $150 billion in exports by 2030. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the textile sector in reaching these milestones while fostering sustainable and innovative growth.
