Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone for Welspun Group's innovative ‘Integrated Bed Linen and Terry Towel’ project at Anjar, Kutch, on Saturday. The event also included Welspun Group’s Excellence Award ceremony, attended by Industries Minister Balwant Singh Rajput and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi.
Speaking at the ceremony, CM Bhupendra Patel urged citizens to contribute towards the vision of a developed India by embracing their responsibilities during this "duty period" of 25 years, which coincides with the country’s Amrit Kaal. He echoed the sentiments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra, “Yahi Samay Hai, Sahi Samay Hai,” highlighting the importance of striving to make India an advanced nation.
The Chief Minister also called on the public to engage in social welfare initiatives such as cleanliness drives, environmental preservation, and resource conservation. He emphasized Kutch's remarkable transformation under the Prime Minister’s leadership, crediting initiatives like the world-renowned Rann Utsav and projects such as Smritivan, which recently earned UNESCO recognition in the Best Interior category.
Highlighting Kutch's industrial progress, CM Patel lauded green energy projects and praised Welspun Group for its contributions to women’s employment and community welfare through its CSR initiatives. He expressed optimism for Kutch’s future as a hub for sustainable development and industrial growth.
Industries Minister Balwant Singh Rajput praised Kutch’s achievements under the leadership of the Prime Minister, describing the Gujarat Government’s textile policy as a revolutionary initiative prioritizing women’s employment. He also expressed hope that Welspun Group’s new venture would play a significant role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Welspun Group Chairman B.K. Goenka hailed the project as a milestone for India’s textile industry, predicting it will become the world’s largest towel manufacturing facility within 18 months. He acknowledged the support of PM Modi and the Gujarat Government for their pivotal role in Kutch's development and the success of Welspun Group’s initiatives.
The event also saw the presentation of Excellence Awards in categories such as Best Manufacturing Facility, Emerge Company, Emerge Leader, and Best Company, with Welspun Group Chairman G.R. Goenka being honored for leadership.
During the visit, the Chief Minister toured Welspun’s state-of-the-art textile plant in Anjar to observe its production process. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Anjar MLA Trikambhai Chhanga, Border Range IG Chirag Kordia, Kutch Collector Amit Arora, and representatives from Welspun Group, including Group MD Rajesh Mandavewala and MD & CEO of Welspun Living Limited Dipali Goenka.
The new project marks another milestone in Kutch's industrial journey, positioning the region as a key contributor to India’s global textile footprint.
