Shein, the Chinese fashion retailer, has received a rare exemption from India’s ban on Chinese-linked apps, allowing it to resume operations under stringent conditions. This development was disclosed by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in a parliamentary session on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited will retain full ownership and operational control of the platform, ensuring all activities remain entirely localized. Shein will function solely as a technology partner, adhering to strict regulatory guidelines laid out by Indian authorities.
This collaboration underscores the Indian government’s commitment to safeguarding local interests while accommodating global technology partnerships within a controlled framework.
