The Life Cycle Assessment Summit (LCAS-2025), held on January 9th and 10th at SASMIRA, Mumbai, marked a significant step toward promoting sustainability in India’s technical textiles sector. The event, inaugurated by Shri Sanjay Savkare, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, highlighted the importance of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) practices in shaping a sustainable future for India’s textile and infrastructure industries. Shri Savkare emphasized the role of innovation and sustainability in advancing the nation’s textile ecosystem.
The summit was attended by prominent figures, including Rajeev Saxena, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; Smt. Roop Rashi, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; and Anshu Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary (Textiles), Government of Maharashtra. Organized under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and supported by the Department of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, LCAS-2025 served as a milestone in advancing sustainability within the technical textiles sector.
The event featured the launch of pioneering technologies, including the Circular Weaving Technology for Seamless Tubular Geotextiles, developed by SASMIRA under NTTM in collaboration with Lohia Corp Ltd. This indigenous innovation addresses critical challenges related to the reinforcement of weak soil. Additionally, Eve Essential, a SASMIRA-supported start-up, launched a Reusable Hygiene Product, contributing to sustainability in personal care.
Industry leaders and innovators were felicitated for their exceptional contributions to the field. The honorees included Yogesh K. Kusumgar, Raj Kumar Lohia, Vayu Garware, Mayoor C. Gandhi, Sanjay Tibrewala, and Anjani Prasad. Manish Raval was recognized for his transformative role in the sector, while Sanjay Saini, Scientist D, SASMIRA, was honored with the Excellence in Research & Innovation award by Shri. Savkare.
The summit also included focused sessions by global leaders, offering insights into the future of technical textiles and Life Cycle Assessment. The event was supported by several prominent organizations, including the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Maharashtra State Co-operative Textile Federation Ltd., Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR CIFT), ECOINVENT, and Reliance Industries Ltd.
LCAS-2025 has proven to be a crucial platform to initiate dialogue and raise awareness about the importance of LCA practices in India. As LCA practices are still in the early stages in the country, the summit highlighted how integrating LCA can help Indian industries meet global sustainability standards, foster innovation, and enhance their competitiveness on the world stage. This event set the stage for further discussions on the adoption of LCA, positioning India as a future leader in sustainable technical textiles.
