The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of its Hyderabad branch laboratory, dedicated to testing specialized textile products. The event was led by Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director-General of BIS, who highlighted the laboratory’s crucial role in enhancing the quality ecosystem in the textile sector through advanced testing facilities.
The ceremony was attended by senior BIS officials, including Nishat Sultana Haque, Deputy Director-General (Laboratories); Dr. Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director-General (Southern Region) and Head of the Southern Regional Laboratory and Hyderabad branch laboratory; Srikanth, Head of the Hyderabad branch office; and heads of BIS laboratories from across India.
Addressing the gathering, Tiwari stated, “The establishment of this specialized textiles testing laboratory in Hyderabad is a significant step in strengthening the nation’s quality infrastructure. This facility will play a critical role in enforcing Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India, ensuring textile products meet the highest national standards. Soon, testing facilities for yarn will also be operational in this laboratory, further expanding its capabilities.”
He further noted the presence of a gold testing laboratory in the same building, where all gold samples are tested for purity. This facility plays a key role in ensuring the authenticity and standardization of gold products in the market.
Along with inaugurating the laboratory, Tiwari also launched the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) for textile testing, a versatile tool designed to assess the quality and durability of various textile products.
The event reinforced BIS’s commitment to fostering quality consciousness among manufacturers and consumers. Officials present at the ceremony emphasized the importance of choosing ISI-marked products, which ensure compliance with BIS standards, guaranteeing safety, reliability, and durability.
The Hyderabad laboratory is set to play a key role in advancing India’s textile standards, supporting manufacturers in improving product quality, and contributing to the overall growth of the textile industry.
