Dior has unveiled an exclusive documentary entitled HER DIOR – Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collaborations with women artists, directed by Loïc Prigent.
The film recounts a story of passion, encounters, flow and sorority, a first-person narrative by women who have joined forces with Maria Grazia Chiuri since her arrival at Dior in 2016.
A discreet observer, director Loïc Prigent has shot an unprecedented documentary highlighting the Dior Creative Director’s commitment to promoting art and enabling it to thrive through female plurality. Prominent artists share their experience and talk about the sincere and powerful bonds they have forged with Maria Grazia Chiuri. They include Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, whose essay We Should All Be Feminists inspired a statement t-shirt, an emblematic piece in the Creative Director’s first collection and a symbol of her unwavering support for feminist creation. She is joined in turn by Tomaso Binga, Robin Morgan, Penny Slinger, Judy Chicago, Fulvia Carnevale, Silvia Giambrone, Sharon Eyal, Eva Jospin, Anna Paparatti, Mariella Bettineschi, Mickalene Thomas, Joana Vasconcelos, Elina Chauvet, Isabella Ducrot, Suzanne Santoro, SAGG Napoli, Brigitte Niedermair and Brigitte Lacombe.
Season after season, painters, visual artists, photographers, performers and writers have accompanied and elevated her collections for Dior with their visions, their values and their messages. These dialogues prove both unique and foundational, providing extraordinary paradigms for expression. They represent a prodigious fusion of art and fashion that expresses a timeless harmony, and several of the collaborations have led to memorable exhibitions.
Joined by curators and historians with whom she regularly works, Maria Grazia Chiuri retraces her amazing creative odyssey from her beloved native city of Rome. She dwells in particular on her friendship with Karishma Swali, director of the Chanakya ateliers and the Chanakya School of Craft, which have transcribed installations for numerous Dior runway shows into monumental embroideries.
The film also shares a fascinating look at the Dior archives, along with intimate and profound discussions and emotion-filled scenes, all encapsulated in a single word: sisterhood.
Released to mark International Women’s Day on March 8 of this year, HER DIOR – Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collaborations with women artists is streaming on the Dior YouTube channel.
