In a significant boost to India’s textile sector, the Central Government has approved a substantial ₹2,100 crore allocation for establishing the country’s first PM MITRA (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) Park in Madhya Pradesh. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Textiles via a post on social platform X, which also stated that applications for land allotment will open soon.
A State-of-the-Art Textile Hub
Planned over a sprawling 2,100-acre site in Bhensola village, Badnawar Tehsil, Dhar district, the park is set to become a benchmark in integrated textile infrastructure. The facility will include advanced amenities such as a 20 MLD Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system, a solar power plant, plug-and-play units (Build-to-Suit), and residential facilities for workers. The entire construction is expected to be completed within 14 months.
The Central government has already received expressions of interest amounting to ₹10,000 crore from potential investors, underlining the strong industry response to the initiative.
A Visionary Push for Jobs and Growth
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the project a “visionary initiative” that will transform the state’s textile landscape and generate vast employment opportunities. The state government has set a target of creating 25,000 jobs through the establishment of 21 dedicated units within the PM MITRA Park.
The initiative is grounded in Prime Minister Modi’s “5F Vision” — Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign — aimed at streamlining the entire textile value chain and boosting India’s export potential.
A Model for Investment and Innovation
The PM MITRA Park in Madhya Pradesh is being developed under a special purpose vehicle (SPV) model, with the Central Government contributing 49% equity and the state contributing 51%. An MoU formalized between the Ministry of Textiles and the state government on May 21, 2023, has confirmed the development of the park on 1,563 acres under the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC).
The strategic location of the park enhances its appeal to investors: just 110 km from Indore, 85 km from the Pithampur industrial area, and 50 km from both Ratlam and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The nearest port, Hazira, is 452 km away, ensuring efficient access to global markets.
Driving Organic Cotton and Apparel Growth
Madhya Pradesh, India’s leader in high-quality cotton production, contributes 317,000 metric tonnes annually. It accounts for 24% of the world’s non-GMO organic cotton and 47% of India’s organic supply. Notably, it remains the only Indian state producing extra-long staple cotton.
The new park is expected to catalyze the growth of weaving, knitting, and machine manufacturing units in key regions such as Bhopal, Chhindwara, the Nimar belt, Burhanpur, and Jabalpur.
A Rising Powerhouse in Garment Manufacturing
Over the past two decades, Madhya Pradesh has made remarkable strides in garment manufacturing, growing from just 11 large units in 2003 to 60 today. The PM MITRA Park further cements its position as a textile investment hotspot with robust infrastructure, abundant natural resources, and a clear roadmap for industrial growth.
With a total commitment of ₹4,445 crore by the government for PM MITRA Parks across India until 2027–28, this development represents a landmark move to position India as a global textile powerhouse.
