In the heart of Hyderabad’s bustling Hitech City lies Shilparamam, a vibrant cultural village where tradition thrives amidst modernity. It was here that a group of 40 international contestants were welcomed for an immersive experience into Telangana’s rich artistic and cultural legacy. As part of the ongoing celebrations surrounding the 72nd Miss World Festival, which is being proudly hosted in the state of Telangana, these delegates representing the European group explored the colours, crafts, and community spirit that make Shilparamam a true cultural gem.
The visit began with a traditional welcome as the delegates were greeted with the melodic strains of the Nadaswaram and presented with marigold bouquets, symbolising the warmth and hospitality synonymous with Indian culture. The ceremonial reception was followed by a photo opportunity, capturing the spirited exchange between the international contestants and Telangana’s culturally rich backdrop.
Nestled in the heart of Hyderabad’s bustling Hitech City, Shilparamam is a unique crafts village envisioned to preserve and celebrate India’s diverse artisanal legacy. Created as a haven for traditional arts, crafts, folklore, and cultural performances, it offers a harmonious blend of rural charm and environmental architecture.
The Miss World delegates explored the vibrant artisan stalls and took a curated walk through the Village Museum, which displays life-sized models of traditional Indian homes and rural lifestyles. One of the most touching moments of the visit was a brief but joyful participation in Bathukamma, the floral festival intrinsic to Telangana’s cultural identity. The contestants joined in the traditional dance around carefully arranged flower stacks, celebrating the essence of womanhood and community.
The experience was further enriched with interactive hands-on sessions at the Brundavanam Craft Experience Zone, where each contestant had the opportunity to engage with one of three traditional art forms. Some chose pottery, shaping and moulding clay under the expert guidance of local artisans. Others immersed themselves in the intricate process of Cheriyal mask painting - a vivid and rare folk-art tradition unique to Telangana. A few participants opted for basket weaving, using natural fibres and learning age-old techniques passed down through generations. These 10–15-minute sessions offered the delegates a rare, tactile connection to India’s enduring craft heritage and highlighted the precision, patience, and artistry that define each medium.
Adding a meaningful dimension to the visit, the delegates interacted with women from Self Help Groups (SHGs), who have been empowered through skill-based livelihoods centred around indigenous crafts. A brief presentation showcased the impact of these women-led initiatives in sustaining traditional crafts and uplifting local economies. As a gesture of appreciation and cultural exchange, handcrafted gift hampers were presented to each contestant.
This immersive experience at Shilparamam stands as a testament to the ethos of the 72nd Miss World Festival - celebrating beauty with purpose, fostering cultural understanding, and creating global connections rooted in local heritage. Telangana’s vibrant artistry, showcased in this heartfelt exchange, offered the world a glimpse into India’s living traditions and the community spirit that keeps them alive.
