Steeped in storytelling and wrapped in vintage elegance, celebrated design duo Rimple & Harpreet unveil a cinematic masterpiece starring Wamiqa Gabbi, exploring themes of solitude, identity, and love through the eyes of a 1960s diplomat’s wife. Styled by RImple Narula, the story unfolds in an artist’s studio and marks the next step in the brand's endeavour to bridge costume and couture.
Known for designing iconic costumes for epic period dramas like Padmaavat, Heeramandi, and the upcoming Ramayana, Rimple & Harpreet bring their cinematic language into an intimate, introspective space. With this film, they reimagine the story of Mrs. Geetha Rai, a fictional character played by Gabbi, a diplomat’s wife stationed in a European city, caught between societal expectations and personal longing.
The studio, imagined as the haven of a besotted artist, becomes the stage for Mrs. Rai’s emotional journey. As she waits for her lover to return and paint her portrait, she moves through the space in quiet reflection, touching artefacts, trying on outfits, and slipping between memories of neglect and moments of awakening.
“With this story, we wanted to blur the line between costume and couture—to clothe not just a character, but her memories, her longing, her quiet rebellion. Wamiqa embodied Mrs. Geetha Rai with such grace and vulnerability, allowing the garments to become echoes of her inner world. It’s a love letter to feminine complexity, to nostalgia, and to the power of style as narrative.” – Rimple Narula, Designer & Co-Founder of Rimple & Harpreet.
“Stepping into the world of Geetha Rai was like slipping into a forgotten memory—delicate, layered, and full of longing. Rimple & Harpreet’s vision allowed me to explore a character through the poetry of fabric and form. Every look told its own story, and I felt deeply connected to the quiet strength and vulnerability she carried.” – Wamiqa Gabbi.
The wardrobe bridges eras and aesthetics, featuring sequined saris, European lace-inspired lehengas, hand-embroidered jackets, and vintage Victorian accessories. Archival Rimple & Harpreet is layered with new pieces to build looks that felt both historically grounded and emotionally resonant.
Shot in shafts of golden sunlight, the mise-en-scène is rich with texture and symbolism, Victorian dressers, dramatic partitions, heavy drapes, oil paintings, and an eclectic mix of old-world charm and studio clutter.
This campaign by Rimple & Harpreet stands at the confluence of costume and couture, of memory and reinvention. At once theatrical and deeply personal, it reaffirms the brand’s mastery in using fashion as a medium of storytelling, where every thread holds a tale, and every look carries a world within it.
