The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has welcomed ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in West Asia, expressing hope that diplomatic engagements will lead to an early restoration of stability in the region.
Reacting to recent developments, including the US President’s post on Truth Social regarding Iran, CITI Secretary General Ms Chandrima Chatterjee noted that easing geopolitical tensions is critical for restoring normalcy in global trade flows and supply chains.
She highlighted that India’s textile and apparel sector has already begun to feel the adverse impact of the ongoing turbulence in West Asia. Key challenges have emerged in the form of disruptions to raw material availability, supply chain inefficiencies, and increased pressure on industrial energy requirements.
Particularly concerning is the situation within the polyester segment, where rising raw material prices are compounded by uncertainties around supply availability. Industry stakeholders fear that continued bottlenecks in polyester production could eventually spill over into the cotton segment, triggering broader pricing pressures across the textile value chain.
CITI reiterated that stability in West Asia remains crucial for ensuring the smooth functioning of global supply chains and safeguarding the interests of India’s textile and apparel exporters, many of whom operate within tight margins.
The industry body remains optimistic that sustained diplomatic efforts will help mitigate risks and support a more stable operating environment for the sector in the near term.
