The Centre is likely to appoint Puneet Goel of Uttar Pradesh as the new Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), government sources said.

According to the sources, the process for Goel’s appointment has substantially been completed, and a formal announcement is likely after the conclusion of the ongoing Parliament session.

The proposed appointment comes as the statutory body under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) continues to play a key role in promoting khadi and village industries, generating employment in rural areas and strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship.

KVIC is currently headed by Manoj Kumar Goel, who has been serving as its Chairman since July 2022. During his tenure, the Commission witnessed significant growth in khadi sales and expanded the reach of its products in domestic as well as international markets.

The Commission has also been involved in promoting rural entrepreneurship, creating livelihood opportunities and supporting the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative through the development of khadi and village industries.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the government so far. A formal notification regarding the proposed appointment is awaited.
