Few sneakers have stayed relevant without constantly reinventing themselves. The PUMA Suede has done exactly that for nearly six decades. Since its debut, one of PUMA’s most collaborated silhouettes has become a recognised part of culture, moving across generations, creative communities and subcultures. From its early connection with emerging street and music culture to its continued presence across generations, the Suede has remained a constant at the intersection of music, fashion and self-expression. This year, PUMA Ambassador and multi-hyphenate creative A$AP Rocky added his perspective to the Suede, sustaining its legacy with a contemporary lens.

In India, PUMA brings the Suede home to culture with Jaipur Rugs, taking a distinctly local turn. The unexpected meeting of a global sneaker icon and a house deeply rooted in Indian craft becomes an ode to craftsmanship. From the rich tactility and enduring quality of suede to the intricate handcraft that defines Jaipur Rugs - both share a deep respect for material, detail and the hands that bring them to life. Together, the two distinct creative worlds find common ground in music, design and a shared belief in making things with intention.
At the heart of this meeting is the return of one of Mumbai’s most iconic venues - once central to Mumbai city’s music scene, where generations came to discover, collect and connect over music. Now, PUMA India brings the landmark back to life for one special weekend as the setting for Suede Sounds, a two-day Listening Room experience on September 5&6 that traces the PUMA Suede’s own enduring relationship with music. The revival honours the space rather than reinventing it: becoming a gathering place for Mumbai’s music community once again, this time with Suede sneaker at the centre of the conversation. The opening evening will bring together a select guest list of tastemakers from across fashion, music, design and entertainment.

Across the weekend, rare vinyl, live performances, bespoke decor and one-of-a-kind creative experiences come together within the space. Handcrafted Jaipur Rugs will wrap the walls of this conceptual room. The programme spans a series of sessions rooted in music and listening culture, culminating in a headline performance by genre-defying musician Lifafa, who will debut his newest sound live. The experience will also extend into the craft of the Suede, with guests invited to work with its signature material and transform it into personalised, handcrafted keepsakes.
Shreya Sachdev, Head of Marketing, PUMA India said, “A true classic doesn’t belong to one moment or one generation. It shapes culture and continues to evolve with it. That is what connects PUMA Suede and Jaipur Rugs. Both brands have spent decades honing their craft, creating a legacy built to last. Suede has historically owned a very special place in music culture, from early adoption by breakdancers, graffiti artists to rap pioneers in the birth of hip-hop, creating a cultural connection that has continued to evolve across generations. That is the thread that PUMA and Jaipur rugs have built their collaboration on. The co-created intentional space is thoughtfully curated around music, craft and design, with every detail strategically chosen to bring these two worlds together. It is the distinctly Indian expression of what makes an icon timeless.”
Speaking on the event, Yogesh Chaudhary, Managing Director, Jaipur Rugs, said, “Luxury today is no longer defined by exclusivity alone; it is defined by authenticity, meaning and human connection. Both PUMA Suede and Jaipur Rugs have become icons because they represent something larger than the products themselves - they represent culture. This collaboration celebrates that shared belief. It brings together the energy of contemporary creativity and the depth of centuries-old craftsmanship, creating a moment where Indian artisanship can engage with a global audience in an entirely new way."

PUMA’s icons have always found their place in culture, and in India, that story comes to life through experiences that give each sneaker its own world. From the Speedcat’s motorsport heritage into motion through a party in the high seas on a ferry, to exploring the Palermo sneaker’s nostalgic spirit through Summer at Nani’s - each experience is rooted in the distinct character of the silhouette while bringing people, places and culture together. The Suede now takes its next turn through music, design and craft.
Launched in 1968, the PUMA Suede is defined by its premium suede upper, clean silhouette and iconic fat laces. Continuing its legacy, PUMA reintroduces the Suede in three distinctive colourways this season—Cayenne Pepper, PUMA Black and Haute Coffee.
