A Monk holds focus. A runner finds it in motion. Ahead of the Ladakh Marathon on September 10–13, PUMA India, the Exclusive Sportswear Partner of the World’s Highest Race Experience, captures the common ground between the two.
The campaign, ‘Meditation in Motion’, features 40 Buddhist Monks in Leh, dressed in their traditional robes and PUMA NITRO Deviate PURE shoes, framed against Ladakh’s landscape. Shot at the Thiksey Monastery, a 15th-century Tibetan Buddhist monastery, the campaign draws an intriguing parallel: meditation and running are seemingly opposite practices, yet both demand focus and discipline.

Set against the backdrop of the Ladakh Marathon, the world’s highest AIMS-certified marathon and one of the world's most extraordinary races, where terrain, altitude and scale turn the marathon into anything but conventional, PUMA India brings an unexpected juxtaposition of ancient practice and modern performance, with ‘Meditation in Motion.’
That analogy finds its most powerful expression in the campaign’s first-of-its-kind hero visual, which has been making its way across social media.
The monks’ everyday lives are shaped by devotion, endurance and discipline. A runner’s practice mirrors these qualities through commitment, resilience and focus: different expressions of the same resolve, and the ability to keep returning to the present when the mind begins to wander. The photoshoot unfolds across six evocative frames, capturing the monks moving through the monastery’s pathways and gathering against Ladakh’s dramatic landscape, in their traditional robes set against a distinctly modern running silhouette- the unexpected visual contrast at the heart of ‘Meditation in Motion’. At the center of the campaign is the PUMA Deviate PURE NITRO, chosen with intent for a story built on presence and focus. Designed for speed without the rigidity of a carbon plate, the lightweight running shoe pairs responsive NITROFOAM™ cushioning with a flexible ride, breathable engineered mesh and PUMAGRIP traction, giving runners a freer, more adaptive stride — echoing the same ease and control the monks bring to their own movement.

Commenting on the campaign, Ramprasad Sridharan, Managing Director, PUMA India, said “As a sports brand, we have seen that movement and meditation may take different forms- but they can often lead to the same place: a state of complete focus and presence. Ladakh is an incredibly special race, and over our three-year association with the Ladakh Marathon, we have experienced first-hand the mental resolve it demands. As a sport brand heavily invested in growing the running ecosystem, we wanted to capture the less visible side of running — the mindset that takes over when the miles fall away and everything else fades out. ‘Meditation in Motion’ was born from this thought. Working closely with the Ladakh Marathon team and the Buddhist Monks of Leh, our team conceived and shot the campaign entirely in-house, resulting in one of the most evocative and meaningful pieces of work we have created at PUMA India.” Speaking on the occasion, Chewang Motup Goba, Founder and Race Director, Ladakh Marathon, said: “Running in Ladakh teaches you that you cannot fight the mountain, you have to understand it and embrace it. The altitude, the cold, the wind, the terrain, they all become part of the experience. That is where the connection with meditation becomes so interesting. You learn to quiet the mind, stay present and keep moving, one step at a time. The Ladakh Marathon has always been about bracing yourself for the elements, but also learning to embrace them.”
The Ladakh Marathon is distinguished by Silk Route Ultra spans 122 kilometres, beginning in the Nubra Valley at 10,700 feet and ascends to the Khardung La Pass at 17,618 feet, elevations higher than Everest Base Camp. As the Exclusive Sportswear Partner, PUMA India will gear runners for race day, with Race Day Tees across all categories. For those taking on the demanding Ultra category, the kit extends to performance essentials designed for Ladakh’s high-altitude conditions, including jackets, arm sleeves, thermals, beanies and caps.
