India’s textile export sector has recorded a strong start to FY 2026–27, with cumulative exports reaching ₹1.43 lakh crore during April–August 2026, marking a 10.3% year-on-year growth. The figures were shared by the Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit, through its official LinkedIn page.
The growth was broad-based across several segments of the textile and allied sectors. Cotton textiles registered an 18% increase during the five-month period, while man-made textiles grew 13.6%. Carpet exports increased 11.9%, while handicrafts recorded the highest growth among the segments highlighted, rising 44%.
The sector also maintained its momentum in August 2026, with textile exports increasing 16.1% year-on-year to ₹29,776 crore.
The performance reflects continued growth across India’s diverse textile value chain, covering cotton textiles, man-made fibres and textiles, handlooms, carpets and handicrafts. The broad-based nature of the growth also highlights the contribution of both traditional textile segments and value-added categories to India's export performance.
The export performance comes at a time when international markets are placing greater emphasis on product quality, traceability, sustainability and value addition. For Indian textile manufacturers and exporters, these changing requirements are creating opportunities to strengthen their presence in global markets while moving beyond volume-led exports.
The next phase of growth is therefore expected to depend not only on increasing export volumes but also on the industry's ability to develop higher-value products, strengthen manufacturing capabilities and respond to evolving international market requirements.
With export growth being recorded across multiple categories, India’s textile sector continues to demonstrate diversification across its product base. The performance during the first five months of FY27 underlines the sector’s continuing role in India’s broader export economy and its growing focus on value addition and global competitiveness.
The figures shared by the Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit, point to a positive opening to FY27 for India’s textile export industry, with sustained growth across both core textile categories and allied craft-based segments.
