NIF Global, New York Institute of Fashion presented The Runway, a showcase of collections created by its fashion design students, at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI at Taj Palace, New Delhi. Bringing student creativity onto a professional fashion platform, the showcase featured 44 garments centred on the theme ‘The Modern Professional’, exploring contemporary interpretations of workwear through individuality, functionality and evolving design sensibilities. Adding to the showcase, celebrated actress Tejasswi Prakash walked the runway as the showstopper, bringing a special highlight to the presentation. The showcase reflected NIF Global's commitment to extending design education beyond the classroom, providing students with hands-on industry exposure and an opportunity to experience the journey from concept development to a professional runway showcase.
Through The Modern Professional, participating students explored the changing language of contemporary workwear, presenting diverse interpretations of how fashion responds to modern lifestyles and individual expression. The collections brought together fresh design perspectives, with each garment reflecting the students' understanding of form, functionality and personal style. Selected by an eminent jury, the 44 garments underwent further development through professional styling, allowing the students to refine their creations for presentation on the runway. For the participating designers, The Runway marked an important step in their creative journeys, offering an opportunity to translate academic learning into a professional fashion presentation. From conceptualising and developing their collections to understanding styling, presentation and the demands of a live showcase, the initiative provided students with firsthand exposure to the collaborative processes that shape the fashion industry.
The showcase also reflected NIF Global's larger emphasis on industry-integrated learning, where practical experience and professional exposure complement academic training. By creating opportunities for students to engage with established fashion platforms, industry professionals and real-world creative processes, the institution continues to bridge the gap between design education and professional practice.
Sharing her thoughts on The Runway, Tisha Khosla, Author & Creative Educator, NIF Global Corporate, said,“The Runway this season celebrated the creativity and diversity of student talent from across India, brought together through the theme ‘The Modern Professional’. With 44 garments selected by an eminent jury, the show presented diverse interpretations of contemporary workwear, individuality and functionality. Each selected look was further developed with professional styling to make it runway-ready, giving our young designers an invaluable opportunity to experience the journey from concept and creation to the fashion runway. It was exciting to see their ideas come alive on one of India's most prominent fashion platforms.”
Speaking on the showcase, Sunil Sethi, Chairman, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), said, “The future of Indian fashion depends on creating opportunities for young designers to understand the industry beyond the classroom. The Runway offered students the experience of presenting their work in a professional environment, while also exposing them to the discipline, preparation and collaboration that a fashion showcase demands. We are pleased to continue our association with NIF Global and provide young creative talent with a platform where their learning can translate into real industry experience.”
Jaspreet Chandok, Group Vice President, Reliance Brands Limited, commented, “Creating meaningful pathways for young talent has always been an important part of Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. The Runway gave fashion students a valuable opportunity to experience the industry at a formative stage in their journey, taking their ideas from an academic environment into a professional showcase. Our continued association with NIF Global reflects a shared commitment to creating platforms where education, industry and opportunity can come together to support the next generation of Indian fashion.”
NIF Global's association with Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI extends beyond The Runway. The institution also presents NIF Global Presents GenNext, an initiative supporting emerging designers as they take important steps in their professional journeys. Together, these initiatives reflect a continued effort to create opportunities for young talent at different stages of their development, from students gaining their first experience of a professional runway to emerging designers establishing their presence within the fashion industry. Headquartered in New York with centres across India, NIF Global draws on perspectives from New York's fashion industry, London's approach to design and India's cultural heritage, offering programmes across fashion design, interior design, management and beauty education. Its emphasis on experiential learning provides students with opportunities to engage with international and domestic fashion platforms, including New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week and Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI.
Through The Runway, NIF Global brought this philosophy to life, offering its students the opportunity to move beyond theoretical learning and experience the creative, technical and collaborative demands of presenting fashion on a professional stage. The showcase highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent through meaningful industry exposure, while introducing fresh creative perspectives to the evolving landscape of Indian fashion.
