On Friday, July 21, 2023, the garment industry in Tiruppur received a compelling directive from T.N. Minister for Industries, T.R.B. Rajaa, during the inauguration of the refurbished Tiruppur Exporters Association building.
Minister Rajaa emphasized the untapped potential of technical textiles and urged the industry to shift its focus towards this emerging sector. With the global technical textiles industry expected to reach USD 220 billion by 2030, and India's share projected to grow to USD 40 billion, the Minister stressed the need for Tamil Nadu to develop core competency in vital areas such as textiles for automobiles, industries, and the healthcare sectors. As the global market and economy faced a flat growth rate, the textile industry was encouraged to explore the domestic market for sustainable expansion. In a move to stimulate innovation, the government revealed plans to boost research and development in the sector, inviting active industry participation. Additionally, the Minister addressed the industry's demand for worker housing and promised government-built houses if land availability challenges in the western districts were resolved. This marks a significant shift in Tiruppur's textile landscape and opens up new avenues for growth and prosperity.
