Air India made a grand unveiling of its new uniforms for pilots and crew members on December 12 through social media. Marking a historic change after six decades since the airline's founding in 1932, the redesign coincides with Air India's integration of Vistara into its operations. Renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra is the creative force behind the new designs.
In a video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Air India's official account, crew members showcase the latest uniforms. The caption accompanying the video states, "Introducing our new Pilot & Cabin crew uniforms, an ode to Air India’s rich history and a promise of a bright future. These uniforms, envisioned by India’s leading couturier @ManishMalhotra, feature three quintessential Indian colors – red, aubergine, and gold, representing the confident, vibrant new India."
Manish Malhotra expressed his honor on Instagram, saying, “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to design the uniforms for Air India. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to the national flag-bearer and showcase the elegance and charm of Indian fashion. My aim was to create uniforms that capture the essence of India’s diverse culture and traditions while also embodying a modern and sophisticated look. By incorporating quintessential hues that are symbolic to India, I hope that these uniforms not only make the crew feel proud but also leave a lasting impression on the guests, representing the warmth and hospitality that India is known for.”
