Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh inaugurated the newly renovated Jute House at India Exchange Place in Kolkata. The event commenced with a one-minute silence to honor the victims of the Pahalgam tragedy. 

During the inauguration, Minister Singh addressed several pressing issues affecting the jute industry, including declining crop yields, unregulated imports of raw jute from Bangladesh, and the absence of a standardized grading system for jute fiber. He assured stakeholders that the central government is committed to resolving these challenges to revitalize the sector.

​The renovation of the 170-year-old heritage building, which houses the Jute Balers' Association hall, underscores the government's dedication to preserving the historical significance of India's jute industry. Minister Singh emphasized that the building stands as a testament to the industry's rich legacy and its ongoing relevance in the nation's economy.​

The event also provided a platform for industry representatives to engage directly with the minister, voicing their concerns and discussing potential solutions to bolster the jute sector's growth and sustainability.
