Global music icon and Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh added another prestigious milestone to his international journey, making a much-celebrated debut on the red carpet of the Met Gala 2025. Known for winning hearts worldwide with his music, film career, and magnetic stage presence, Diljit’s appearance at fashion’s biggest night has made India — and especially Punjab — beam with pride.
Marking his first-ever appearance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s iconic fundraising gala, Diljit Dosanjh arrived in a regal, custom-designed ensemble by Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung, embodying the spirit and grandeur of Punjabi royalty. The look paid homage to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, a historical figure celebrated for his opulent style and cultural legacy.

Diljit wore an ivory sherwani-inspired suit, elevated with a flowing cape embroidered with intricate golden threadwork depicting the map of Punjab and the complete Gurmukhi alphabet, symbolising his deep-rooted connection to his heritage. He completed the majestic look with a traditional turban (pag), solidifying his status as a modern-day cultural ambassador for Punjab.

In a standout tribute to Indian royalty, Diljit accessorised with a layered pearl and emerald necklace, heavily embellished brooches and rings, and most notably, a recreated version of the legendary Patiala necklace — originally commissioned in 1928 by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh and crafted by Cartier. Featuring the iconic 234-carat De Beers yellow diamond, the necklace is considered one of the most exquisite pieces of jewellery ever made.
This symbolic inclusion not only added authenticity to the ensemble but also sparked pride in India’s historical craftsmanship. While American internet star Emma Chamberlain wore a part of the same Cartier collection to the Met Gala in 2022, Diljit’s appearance felt like the heritage returning home.

From commanding the stage at Coachella to leaving his mark at global talk shows and now walking the Met Gala red carpet, Diljit Dosanjh continues to be a beacon of Punjabi pride and artistic excellence on the world stage.
