Indian ethnicwear brand BIBA has expanded its international retail presence with the opening of its first store in Melbourne, Australia, marking a new milestone in the brand’s international growth journey.
The development was announced by BIBA through its official company communication, which described the Melbourne launch as an important milestone for the brand. The new store is located at Westfield Fountain Gate, Level 2, near Target, bringing BIBA’s interpretation of Indian fashion to consumers in the Australian market.
Commenting on the launch, the company said, “Bringing the elegance, vibrancy, and heritage of Indian fashion to Australia is a truly proud moment for all of us.” BIBA added that the achievement reflected the “dedication, collaboration, and tireless efforts” of its team, partners and associates involved in bringing the store to completion.
Founded by Meena Bindra in 1988, BIBA has grown from a home-grown Indian fashion enterprise into an established ethnicwear brand. The company’s journey has been centred on making Indian ethnic fashion accessible through ready-to-wear collections that combine traditional influences with contemporary styling.
BIBA’s portfolio spans a range of Indian and contemporary ethnicwear, including suit sets, kurtas, lehengas, dresses, bottomwear and accessories, along with collections for girls. The brand’s design approach draws on Indian colours, fabrics, craftsmanship and cultural influences while adapting them for modern consumers.
Siddharth Bindra, who joined the family business in 1997, played an important role in the evolution of BIBA from a home-grown enterprise into a widely recognised fashion brand. Under its broader retail expansion, the company has developed a significant presence across India as well as digital platforms serving international consumers.
The Melbourne launch marks an important transition for BIBA in Australia, taking its presence beyond digital access into physical retail. The store provides customers in the region with an opportunity to experience the brand’s collections directly and engage with Indian ethnic fashion in a mainstream shopping-centre environment.
The opening also comes against the backdrop of growing visibility for Indian fashion and lifestyle brands in Australia. Indian ethnicwear has traditionally been available through specialist boutiques, independent retailers, cultural shopping precincts and online platforms. The presence of an established Indian fashion brand within a major shopping centre provides another retail touchpoint for both the Indian diaspora and customers from the wider Australian market.
BIBA’s collections extend beyond traditional occasionwear, with offerings designed for everyday dressing, workwear, casual occasions, festivals, celebrations and more elaborate events. This allows the brand to present Indian fashion not only as clothing associated with weddings and cultural festivities but also as part of contemporary everyday wardrobes.
The location at Westfield Fountain Gate further places BIBA within a diverse mainstream retail environment. The store is situated on Level 2 near Target, adding an Indian ethnic fashion offering to the centre’s existing retail mix.
For BIBA, the Melbourne store represents a new chapter in its international retail journey and provides a physical platform through which the brand can showcase Indian fashion, craftsmanship and contemporary ethnicwear to consumers in Australia.
