Italian luxury fashion house Prada has shown interest in launching a limited-edition Kolhapuri-inspired footwear collection crafted in collaboration with traditional Indian artisans, according to the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MACCIA).
The announcement follows a virtual meeting held earlier on Friday between senior officials from Prada and representatives of MACCIA. During the discussion, Prada conveyed its intent to explore a Made-in-India collection that draws inspiration from the iconic Kolhapuri chappal, with a strong focus on craftsmanship and authenticity.
MACCIA confirmed in an official statement that a technical expert team from Prada will visit India next week to identify and evaluate potential local supply chain partners for the project. The initiative aims to bridge global luxury fashion with traditional Indian heritage and promote artisanal excellence on an international platform.
The proposed collaboration is seen as a significant move toward global recognition of Indian craftsmanship, especially from a fashion house as prestigious as Prada, which is renowned for its commitment to quality, heritage, and innovation.
